I have been exploring some of last week’s Bahrain grand prix data. Some exciting challenges took place especially along two of top F1 drivers, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and Max Verstappen of RedBull Racing.

Lap time data shows how intense was their race, particularly in the last 15 laps, and how Hamilton skillfully kept the faster car behind despite the immense pressure from Max Verstappen who was on average ~0.5 sec faster per lap!

While Max Verstappen struggled with a diff. problem throughout the race, Lewis Hamilton managed to keep consistency in his lap times. However, Max came back with a strong pace after his last pit stop in lap 40, driving significantly faster than any other car on the track!

I really enjoyed the opening race of the season and data so far suggest that we are going to have an exciting season ahead. I’m looking forward for next races’ data for further analysis and see how these talented drivers will challenge each others.

The data used for this analysis is available here.
